The same level-headed thinking that went into a stud-finder with a level for your wall to hang pictures and that 70-inch flatscreen, has been hand-crafted and created by Father/Son duo, Todd and Bradlee Fuhrhop.
Bradlee Fuhrhop, President, is a former collegiate baseball player at Kentucky Wesleyan College where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Biomechanics. He is an ISSA certified personal trainer and baseball trainer for EL1. Todd, Vice President, is a lifelong dedicated weightlifter. Naturally they put their brawn and their brains together to create The Level Bar.
The concept is easy: provide the lifter with instant feedback so you build muscle and healthier habits, creating better concentration during workouts and preventing injury.of all… the joy.

“He got his ‘bell rung,’ that’s all.” “She’s just got a headache.” “That kid is always ‘a little off;’ that’s their personality.” These are common rationales I’ve heard from coaches or parents when trying to persuade me to allow their athlete to return to play with a concussion. Maybe if I call it what it is- a mild traumatic brain injury, they would be less resistant to their athlete sitting out.

Concussion management continues to be a frequently discussed topic not only at the collegiate and professional level, but also at the youth and high school levels. I feel the mass public has misconceptions of what a concussion looks like. It’s not surprising. No two concussions look the same and most symptoms are not visible to an outside observer. Symptoms can include: headache, dizziness, memory impairment, confusion, light/sound sensitivity, nausea, irritability, depression, anxiety, etc. We all understand what a broken bone is and looks like when our provider points it out on our X-ray. A concussion is not so easily recognizable; there is no diagnostic image to show what happened. This is why concussion is one of the most under-reported sports-related injuries. This is particularly concerning when considering the catastrophic effects that could result if a second concussion occurs before recovering from the first concussion. This is called Second Impact Syndrome and can result in significant brain damage or even death. The key to safely recovering from concussion is to allow the brain enough time to heal without taking on further trauma. This time frame is different for everybody and can range from one week to several months.

Our Genesis Sports Medicine Team is the only group in the area that provides a continuum of care that consists of athletic trainers recognizing the concussion on the sidelines, a sports medicine physician (Dr. Kelly Krei) to determine most appropriate course of rehabilitation or psychological therapy needed, and rehabilitation therapy specialists to progressively provide neurological and physical stimulus until the individual is ready to return to sport/work/school. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are the rehabilitative disciplines offered at Genesis and are geared toward safe return to sport/work/school. Physical therapy works with issues such as: neck pain, headaches, dizziness, balance impairment, body motion sensitivity, visual motion sensitivity and return to sport/work/school. Occupational therapy works with issues such as: visual-spatial impairments, double vision, coordination, neurofeedback for headaches and return to sport/work/school. Speech therapy works with cognitive impairment, word finding difficulty, memory impairment, planning/schedule making, return to sport/work/school/driving. At Genesis, our advanced interdisciplinary collaboration emphasizes a team-based approach to improve the communication between the individual’s brain and their body to ensure safe return to all activities. It’s this teamwork that allows Genesis to provide the highest quality concussion rehabilitation in the area.

He treats both surgical and non-surgical patients. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in the Quad Cities, which greatly benefits his patients who are wanting to return to weight lifting and working out. He grew up in Chillicothe, IL playing football, basketball, and baseball for 4 years in high school. He played 4 years of collegiate lacrosse at Augustana College while receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology/pre-physical therapy, and then received his doctorate in physical therapy at St. Ambrose University. Kyle is entering his seventh year as the Athletic Trainer for Rock Island High School. Kyle is a graduate of Orion High School and Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. After graduating college in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts, Kyle began working for Genesis Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. Zach Thompson, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Zach is a physical therapist specializing in treatment of a wide variety of athletes recovering from injury or surgery. This includes athletes involved in football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, track & field, baseball, softball, swimming, gymnastics, golf and weight lifting. His special interests include treating vestibular dysfunctions and concussions. Zach grew up in Wilton, IA where he was active in football, basketball, track and baseball all four years. He studied athletic training at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA and worked with the athletes from Coe’s various athletic teams as well as the hockey players from the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. When QC Fit Fest team met Shannon Morse, Owner of The Speed Attic, we realized we weren’t just meeting your average training facility. The Speed Attic has been actively engaged and invested in children in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas for over 13 years. Their motivational approach to safety, development of specific skills and encouragement of student athletes to persevere, has been nothing shy of inspiring.

Having recently relocated from Rock Island, IL. to Moline, IL. inside Southpark Mall, The Speed Attic serves even more student athletes, ages 6 and older, including college level and adults. Their program is based on the form and fundamentals of improving athleticism. Proper form prevents injury and improves strength, endurance, and stamina. Flexibility is another major focus for athletes and is focused on specifically at their 4pm classes on Thursday afternoons.

The Speed Attic offers smaller-sized classes of 12-15 students to ensure your student gets the one-on-one, personalized dedication and attention they need to acquire success in their sport. There is a range of ages and ability, which works well for interaction, involvement, and encouragement among the students. When children are trained in proper form early, there is less to correct later in their athletic career. This preventative approach keeps your student athlete in the best position for fewer injuries and proper development.
